Sunrise Driscle

Sunrise Earth, Driscle style. I had this crazy idea last weekend to do something creative and different. Something I'd never done. I said, well the Nikon D40 is here. I love photography, I absolutely love the mountains. I have never liked mornings. So I thought to myself, put down the ps3 controller and the boo's for a night and do something meaningful, something I'll remember. Something adventerous!

So I left a note to my dad to leave the D40 for a few days. No explanation; but he got it and left it.

I worked my 8 hours at the highschool, got home around 11:30pm. I had planned to take a 3 hour nap, pass out at midnight wake up around 3am, get my gear and supplies and head out 3:30am to make it to the ridge before sunrise at 5:15am. I ended up getting home and having to deal with some PR stuff with my gaming clan I've been apart of for almost 8 yrs. Their site crashed and I happen to be a senior administrator and web admin and first on the scene to respond! Ha so I spent my nap time investigating the crash... anyway spent my night setting up a temporary forum for the community to use to communicate (securely) while we investigate and resolve the other sites crash.

I took over 400 pictures on this 'venture. Between two cameras, the Nikon D40 DSLR and our Canon PowerShot A710IS. About 440 shots in all I think. With one video (video is at bottom of this post, with description... you'll understand the rush! This wasn't ALL about photography)

Here are the winners I've selected. (They are NOT in order, ie... from beginning of sunrise to full sunrise...) My favorite being the first one, the one below. This one wins it for me. I love everything about it! This picture makes it all worth it.

The photo below stands out to me. I find it hard for myself to figure out what I like so much about it. It's just.... different. It has this feeling about it. Not sure. But I love it!

It's time to honor the mechanicism that made this possible and will make more trips possible for years to come. I give it up to Japan for the camera and the amazing vehicle that got me to the locale. Someday I want to visit Tokyo, and will.

Half the fun of getting to these spots is... well getting there and back! They just re-graded the main forest roads up at capitol forest and boy let me tell you... that is AWESOME! no more potholes, its like rally car heaven. I took full advantage of not having to worry about my bald old tires because i got a set of wheels and tires I'm putting on this week to replace them. SO... what does that mean? BEAT THE HELL OUT OF THEM! So I did, just ripping it up, up there. Man what a blast, just drifting corners, full throttle. In this video I hit 60mph.

The video doesn't really depict the adrenaline rush at all. The video makes it look like (to me) that I'm moving rather slow, but the few flashes at the odometer is proof I'm no liar or exagerator!

SO MUCH FUN!

Summer is upon us; FUCKYEA

Took a trip up to the hills today. Oh what a beautiful day!!! Was amazing. I couldn't ask for a better day or situation. I got new wheels n tires to throw on this week so i just beat the hell outta these worn out tired Mud Rovers. Didn't give a shit if i blew one to shreds. I was TEARING the roads 50mph at times just drifting and tearing the blackhills a new asshole! ... I haven't been that aggressive driving up there in a few years. Conditions were perfect! The roads have mostly all be re-graded so they are smooth and pothole-LESS.

I went up to check out this new camping location I've found. It's still un-molested. I saw a few more shotgun shells and broken bottles there this time then last time I was at it. But nothing serious. No one's camped there yet. It's gonna be a great spot!

A day in the mountains

Just spent the afternoon up in the hills. Decided to try and make it to the D-C junction just up from the quary on the C-4000 line. It's usually doable, and probably would of been if I had gone up the C-4000 but I tried to get there from the D-line side. So up the D-1000 from the D-3000 from.... the D-line. haha...

Got within a mile of junction. Chained up all 4 corners of the truck.. Made it about 200yards in about an hour of time, with lots of shoveling and close calls with the epic cliff on my right. The snow was just to deep and wet. I did a 10pt turnaround in the middle of the road that was shadowed by a tree so the snow wasn't so bad... (where the picture of the truck is taken).

Was fun to say the least!

Christmas Eve

Its about 17 minutes past midnight on Christmas morning. I haven't updated this blog in months. Tho, since I've been home from Hawaii no one looks here anymore. I know this, I've come to grips with it. =) But ... if I think of it kinda like a diary (i dont have one) then it makes it ok to post here. Maybe someone, somewhere, stumbles here and finds my small life interesting and is intrigued, maybe inspired.

Drew... change a life? Maybe =) I hope my spirit carries on for generations... lol Just playn, no.. not really. hehe

So it's been snowing here for a week or so, nothing SERIOUS. but according to the media and the people who live here the world has almost come to end! I think this white stuff... all 12 inches of it are amazing! I would appreciate another 24 inches before I might.... MIGHT start complaining. I mean I atleast want to put my chains on once this year.

My truck is sitting on 4 old bald tires now and I still haven't had to break out the chains. What GIVES! That would be an adventure I could write a novel about.... that is if I had to put chains on in Lacey, WA. That would be epic!

Few weekends back, before all this snow starting pouring down and ending Earth as we know it... lil sarcasm ;)

I went wheeln up at the peak as we call it with my bro'sif Jeff, Mike and Jeffs girl brigitte (who is awesome btw!) luv ya brigitte =)

Spent the afternoon endulging in beer and whiskey hotdogs, manwich, burgers, etc etc... its what we do. Don't get it? Don't like it? Well thats your problem, this is our past time, our recreation.
anyway here's some pictures from the brrrr adventure!
